Decorative Metal Fencing Adds Serious Style

There was a time when metal fencing had a bad reputation, simply because it did not look like the kind of thing you would want to put in front of your house. Many people believed it was very ugly or gave the appearance of some kind of security measure, with metal security fencing being installed simply as a way of keeping people out. However, times have changed, and now there are many different types of decorative metal fencing on the market which really can add a nice element of design to your garden or yard, and yet can also be used as security fencing if there is a need for it.

There are several different types of decorative metal fencing, but the most common are aluminum decorative fencing, iron fencing, and cast metal fencing, all of which have their own particular styles. This article will take a look at some of these choices and outline some of the considerations that need to be borne in mind before making a final choice of which decorative fencing style is the right one for you.

Decorative aluminum

Aluminum fencing has the advantage of being relatively cheap, while it is also fairly easy to install, even if you do it yourself. It can be painted very easily, and so it is very quick to change the look of it, while it is also fairly strong and so can be used as a security option. There are various designs available in decorative aluminum fencing, which range from the very simple, right through to the extremely ornate, and by doing some research you almost certain to find a style which will fit in with the general appearance of your garden.

The next most common type of metal fencing which can be used for a decorative style is iron fencing. This can be expensive, though there are some cheap versions available if you look around. Decorative iron fencing looks absolutely great, especially when it is used with a brick wall, and it is also extremely secure, with the metal spikes being a great way to keep out intruders from your property. A very simple or plain iron security fence can look quite ugly, and therefore many modern designs include iron fence finials in order to give a nice decorative element without compromising on security. Iron metal fencing can also be painted any color you like, though many people do tend to go for black iron fencing since it tends to add an antique or classical style to the appearance.

Specialist suppliers

The least common type of fencing that use these decorative iron elements is probably cast metal fencing, which tends to be one of the most expensive types of fencing you can buy, though it is extremely ornate and can make your garden looked very beautiful. Traditional cast iron fencing was often used as a security measure in the large houses, though it is now becoming more common among more people. It is very heavy fencing, and it may need to be bought from a specialist fencing supplier, especially if you are looking for the heavy type of iron railings.

For a really antique fencing feel, take a look at a Victorian-scroll metal fence in wrought iron or steel panels. A fence with ball-topped posts, especially one with a black powder-coated finish adds a real authentic touch. Many decorative fence panel in this type are a standard 38" long x 30" high, with a gate 30"wide x 33" high. Alternatively, look at an 18" metal border fence to add a decorative element if you don't have the need for security. If a gate is needed there's the Biscayne 16 foot double driveway gate, a decorative steel gate available in 10ft or 12ft single gates and also14ft and 16ft for double gates.

Cast iron fencing styles

You do need to bear in mind that decorative iron fencing will need to be painted as regular intervals, since without it you will tend to see that the fence will suffer from rust, something which is also a problem with cast iron fencing done in the traditional style. If you want the maintenance-free option then aluminum fencing could be one of the best choices, since it will also need to be painted regularly, but not as often as some of the other choices such as metal fencing.

The good thing about aluminum is that it can be used in a picket fence style, so that you can have the traditional picket fence but without having to cope with the maintenance problems of a wooden picket fence. In this way you get one of the best picket fence options there is. This type of fencing is so attractive that it can be used both in a garden or a yard, and given that it is such a maintenance-free option he should be one of the first choices for many homeowners.

If you are thinking of installing cast iron railings you need to know you will need to paint them fairly regularly to stop them being affected by rust. I used to have some but I went for aluminum in the end because I could not be bothered with the maintenance.

I agree that aluminum can be a great choice, because although it is cheap it can be very secure at the same time and is a fairly low maintenance option. I had some installed in my back garden a few years ago and I have been very happy with the results.

I was just looking at having some iron railings fitted. I think they make a really nice design but I was pretty shocked by the price I would have to pay. I now may take a look at aluminum fencing because it is cheaper I think.

I like metal fencing as well, because not only does it look good but it is also very secure and that's an important thing to me. You can get some good deals if you look around on the Internet and that is what I intend to do for my latest fencing job in the back garden.

I want something that will make my garden look really special and that is why I am looking at metal fencing, and something that has got a nice design to it. I do not mind spending money because for me the garden is one of the most important things because it makes the whole place look good.

Starting to Teach Fencing Tactical Choices

By Walter Green
Designing an instructional program for beginners in fencing has traditionally been based on progression through the simple attacks.
